NEW TOKYO — A HOSTILE Worldbook An Unofficial Supplement for HOSTILE and the Cepheus Engine
I like roleplaying game (RPG) products done by the smaller companies. I find that, though the company may be small, they more often than not offer RPGs with big adventuring opportunities. One of my favorite alternate Traveller Cepheus Engine settings is HOSTILE from Zozer Games. HOSTILE is the Cepheus Engine version of the ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER universe. While most products for HOSTILE come from Zozer Games, New Tokyo is created by Etges Press and is, “published and sold with authorization from Paul Eliot and Zozer Games” (p. 2). New Tokyo was once a prosperous Japanese colony but is now, “a world on the brink of civil war” (p. 10). To get a taste of where the setting is placed, one need to look no further than the movie inspirations.
New Tokyo—the sourcebook—is 80 pages of all-out goodness. There is history, locations, conflict, natural phenomenon that affect human cognition, greedy (corrupt?) megacorporations, random encounters and many plot seeds. Three short scenarios are also provided, perhaps useful as one-shot adventures to introduce players campaigning on New Tokyo.
New Tokyo is a great setting to adventure in. Best of all, it is free!
HOSTILE Situation Report 021 – Hellscape is a bit of a more traditional RPG supplement. In this case, Hellscape is the 21st entry in the HOSTILE Situation Report series which are 3-page products harkening back to the early and simple days of the Traveller RPG and patron encounters. Hellscape is an introductory scenario that is straight-forward. It can be used as a one-shot or a filler scenario. This particular scenario has a dangerous environmental element that the players must contend with.
