Great article. I have a sort of half-mild-sorta-kinda defense of the 1970s Army policy in that I think that after flopping around in Vietnam, the Army needed to walk (get in shape for tactical enagements involving big armored formations) before it could run (grand operational thought and coordination). Doesn’t change the many flaws in the doctrine itself.
Interesting thought. It also makes us realize (now) how really lucky we were things didn’t turn hot.
