As I leave this morning for The Armchair Dragoons Fall Assembly, I face some last-minute decisions. What should a grognard take to a small convention? Hmm…
Gaming Kit. I know that I am going to play several games with smaller counters so I grabbed my lighted tweezers and Line-of-Sight laser for those challenging hex corners and edges.
Lucky Dice? I debated bringing some of my own dice but instead decided that I owe a visit to The Gamer’s Armory in Cary that provided the venue for Fall Assembly the last two years. Although the event is in a new location I still feel it is proper to visit the FLGS that supported us in the past.
Rulebooks. I debated downloading the rulebooks for a few of the games I am scheduled to play in but ultimately decided that I very likely will look up rules faster in a physical rulebook on the table vice bringing an iPad out during play. That said, I did print out my own Sequence of Play for By Swords & Bayonets from GMT Games since I knew that it was not among the in-the-box player aids.
Pogey Bait. I promised Mrs. RockyMountainNavy that I would watch my diet as she is concerned about my health (and rightly so). That means I packed some of my own—well, her chosen—healthier snacks. Since we can drink in the VFW Post, I also packed some of my “adult beverages” that passed the health standards of Mrs. RMN (as in low calorie).
Games for Trade. As usual, I plan on participating in the “usual pay-it-forward table for folks to take one/leave one” so that means grabbing a few game boxes.

They are awesome.
