Blog Report 24-03 ~ WordPress AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is penetrating many parts of our everyday life, and this WordPress blog is no exception. In recent weeks, I started using the “Generate with AI” tool under “Set featured image” to create the featured images for my posts. I usually do this as the last step after all the text and images are included since the AI appears to parse what I have in the post as the prompt. A few times I have gone to a manually entered prompt but I don’t have to do that very often. The results are…generally good. I usually auto-generate three or four images and then choose the one I like the best.

Want to see how it works? Lets see what sort of image is created using this commercial hobby wargame, wargame practitioner, boardgame, roleplaying game, plastic model building, military book, history book blog.

Feature image is the first one auto generated by WordPress AI

The opinions and views expressed in this blog are those of the author alone and are presented in a personal capacity. They do not necessarily represent the views of U.S. Navy or any other U.S. government Department, Agency, Office, or employer.

    Right!!
Ok,I didn’t pay much attention to the assistant. But if it’s trying to force dumbing down, I’m not in favour of that. Happy to have spellings checked, but beyond that they’re my words in the order I want them.
I must have a play with the image generator though, even if I don’t use them, it’ll be an interesting experiment.
    Cheers,
    Frank

Interesting, I have noted that an AI wants to change my choice of words recently. I had not realised that it will do the featured images too.
So far I’ve resisted AI in internet searches, as they seem come back with mostly opinion touted as fact on the couple of occasions I have experimented.
There have been a couple of posts where I could have done with the help for an image.
Overall though from my point of view it seems to defeat the object of having the blog in the first place.
I’ll keep on resisting for now 🙂

I’ve seen the AI grammar assistant and do NOT like it. It always wants to change my words to make them less complex. It does not check grammar as much as it checks reading level. It literally tries to dumb down my words.
My AI feature image experiment may end sooner than I thought. After about a dozen postings the images are looking a bit too uniform. Might have to use more manual prompts to add some variety but so far I am frankly a bit disappointed ☹️.

My words but I’m not a graphics artist. Photos in articles but featured image…we’ll give it a try for a bit. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Interesting. I’m a slow adopter. I’ve resisted using AI images as my blog’s raison d’être is being a credible reference.
But I should use AI images more for my RPG sessions & posts; nobody expects those to be “authentic”.
The image has a strong Twilight 2000 vibe. Soldiers escorting the tank have drawn swords. Dude on the left with the blue hood looks like he has a claymore slung across his back.
