Looking at my preorders, I have to say I am becoming a bit disillusioned at the state of boardgame and wargame production. On the other hand, there are many good new books being released or older ones available for acquisition on the second-hand market. Meanwhile, the TTRPG industry seems to be great at delivering product.

FormulaGP from Duck Games via Gamefound. Projected Dec 2024. STATUS – TRACKING. Ordered for RMN T who has become a real Formula 1 racing fan. Expected by end of 2024; hope is in time for Christmas.
To Honor Grandfather from Chief Weasel Games via Kickstarter. Projected Aug 2024. STATUS – IN TROUBLE. The mid-April update stated the printer has ghosted the publisher and they are seeking a replacement. Bad luck.

Wargame preorders
Air & Armor: Würzburg, Operational Armored Warfare in Europe – Designer Signature Edition from Compass Games via Kickstarter. STATUS – GETTING CLOSE. I stopped pre-ordering Compass Games and now just wait for the near-production Kickstarter campaign. That way I don’t get as upset at delays.
The Battle of Khalkin Gol from Princeps Games via BackerKit late pledge. Projected Sep 2024. STATUS – PROGRESSING. Hoping for another small publisher success here.
Crisis in Korea from Catastrophe Games via Kickstarter. Projected May 2024. STATUS – FUNDED. Catastrophe is another smaller publisher with a decent record.
Dec 1972: Linebacker II from Cadet Games via Gamefound. Projected Oct 2023. STATUS – OVERDUE. Originally projected for October 2023 but (sigh) still waiting.
Defiance: 2nd Russo-Ukrainian War 2022-? from GMT Games via P500. STATUS – QUICKLY PROGRESSING. I have to hand it to Mark Herman, they understand what it takes to get a game ready for publication and it shows.
Eastern Front: Operational Battles from Compass Games via Direct Pre-order. STATUS – DELAYED FOREVER. Accidentally ordered this via “Pay Now” in February 2021 and have been waiting ever since. Latest status says 2025, much like Compass said 2023 then 2024 before.
Five Parsecs From Home Compendium – Bug Hunt from Modiphius Entertainment via Direct Preorder. Projected Mar Apr 2024. STATUS – DELAYED. Originally scheduled for March 2024 then pushed to April the game has still not delivered in early May. I wonder how much the Fallout craze set the company back.
Forward Defense ’85: Company Command in WW3 from Stategist’s Den Games via Kickstarter. Projected Jun 2024. STATUS – PROGRESSING. The only rating on BGG is a “1” from a Slovakian user. Wondering (not really) what the back story is there…
The Halls of Montezuma from Fort Circle Games via Kickstarter. Projected Nov 2023. STATUS – OVERDUE. Another projected delivery in November 2023 that is now pushing the six months late mark.
Littoral Commander: The Baltic from The Dietz Foundation via Direct Preorder. STATUS – TRACKING. Projected for “2024” so no reason to complain at this point. If there is a publisher I have faith in it is The Dietz Foundation which has a better track record than most every other publisher.
Maneuver Warfare from The Dietz Foundation via Direct Preorder. STATUS – IN LIMBO. Technically speaking, The Dietz Foundation never stated when the game would be published so I can’t say if the game is late or still pending.
Next War: Iran from GMT Games via P500. STATUS – PRINTING. So GMT Games can print a new game in a series in just over a year but can’t update and reprint a previous series game for over 3 years?
Next War: Taiwan from GMT Games via P500. STATUS – LONG WAIT. Another seems-like-forever wait for a game. Pre-ordered in February 2021. Have been waiting 3 years for a REPRINT!
Next War: Series Supplement #4 from GMT Games via P500. STATUS – WAITING. This is a magazine-like supplement. Another long wait.
The Soft Underbelly, 1943-1945 from Sergio Schiavi via Kickstarter. Projected Nov 2023. STATUS – OVERDUE. Now going on six months delay. I get that smaller publishers face challenges getting games printed so I guess if a delay is less than a year I should be happy.
Tactical Commander from Trafalgar Editions via Kickstarter. Projected Sep 2024. STATUS – PROGRESSING. Maybe this is a small publisher that can get it done.
World at War 85: Blood and Fury from Lock n’ Load Publishing via Gamefound Late Pledge. STATUS – NEVER GOING TO DELIVER? I ordered this after sitting with the designer and enjoying the game. The publisher, Lock n’ Load, appears to be in deep financial trouble with many, many upset customers. It looks very likely, if not almost certain, that I will never see my copy of this game.
