TTRPG Roll 24-28 ~ Breakaway news with SPACE: 1999 – The Tabletop Roleplaying Game from Modiphius

I was working on a post for the new Five Parsecs From Home Compendium that includes Bug Hunt when I noticed this on the Modiphius Entertainment web page:

I have been working on my own UFO/Space: 1999 roleplaying game using the Free League Year Zero Engine available through the Free Tabletop License (FTL). Personally, I am not a huge fan of the Modiphius 2d20 System and am a bit unsure (disappointed?) to see it get the win for the IP.

Given the license for Space: 1999 rests with Gerry Anderson from the UK I guess it makes sense that another UK company would get the opportunity to use the IP rather than a Swedish company, regardless of how successful Free League’s roleplaying game line is with proven hits in ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game and others.

I am actually quite interested to see how Modiphius builds a Space: 1999 campaign for a RPG. The original series was very much of the old school “monster/mystery of the week” style coming far before TV series moved to story arcs such as Babylon 5. I am also very much a fan of Season 1. Personally, I consider Space: 1999 Season 2 apocryphal—at best—in my head-space.

Dragon’s Domain scared me to death as a young viewer

I already signed up for updates from Modiphius. I don’t see a publication date, but now is certainly not soon enough for me!
