“The South Korean government is planning to send a 5,500- [metric] ton navy ship and other naval forces to the seas off Somalia to rescue South Korean ships and crews if they are hijacked by local pirates.
“The military is likely to mobilize a 5,500-ton Chungmugong Yi Sun-shin-class destroyer, which will be equipped with the special operation forces of the Underwater Demolition Team, choppers and high-speed motor boats,” said the official.
The sea vessels are likely to be replaced every three to six months.
The Chungmugong Yi Sun-shin destroyer, named after the country’s celebrated 16th century naval commander and hero, is the second-largest naval vessel in the South Korean fleet.
The source said such a large vessel is needed because the operation will be a long-term mission to fight against heavily armed pirates. (Joongang Ilbo 24 Sep 08).”
Guess Seoul is getting tired of million dollar ransom payments to pirates….

The interesting thing in reading this backward is now knowing how much time it took them to finally get that ship out there.
