TTRPG Roll 26-12 ~ Battlestar Galactica Role Playing Game (Margaret Weis, 2007) #charactercreationchallenge

Using Battlestar Galactica Role Playing Game (Margaret Weis Productions, 2007).

I actually took in the Battlestar Galactica Role Playing Game before Serenity so, technically, this book was my first introduction to the CORTEX game engine (now CORTEX Classic).

In terms of character creation, Battlestar Galactica uses a point-buy system where one purchases Attributes, Skills, and Traits (Assets or Complications). Not that difficult. There is a table in the character generation chapter that enables a bit of a random (i.e. more Traveller-like) attribute generation but it is, in my opinion, more work than it is worth.

Amos Pomeux

Hailing from Scorpia, Amos was a “reporter” for an underground newspaper. In other words a wannabe social media influencer. With the Colonial Fleet on the run Amos works as a computer and communications tech keeping the network up. Of course, in the aftermath of the Cylon Armageddon, people involved in technology, especially computers, are tolerated but not especially welcome in “polite” company. Amos, for his part, has all-too-often seen unusual activity in the networks and is not sure if it is a nascent underground to stand against the military-dominated rule of the Fleet or a sign that the Cylons never actually left. His postings on social media have gained him a bit of renown (Asset- Renowned d2) but also has exposed him as an opponent of President Roslyn (Complication – Contrarian d4). Whta people do not understand is that Amos longs for peaceful coexistence with technology, even computers (Complication – Idealist). Little do many people, especially “the authorities”, know that Amos uses his social media network for connections (Asset – Friends in Strange Places d2) and has a photographic memory (Asset – Photographic Memory d4).
