Wargame SITREP 25-39 ~ Game of the Week – Leading with a Kick(starter) in Corsair Leader (Dan Verssen, DVG, 2018)

Good flea (not fleece)

In July 2025 I picked up a copy of Corsair Leader: The WWII Pacific Theater Solitaire Game designed by Dan Verssen and published by Dan Verssen Games (2018) through my local gaming flea market. It took me until September to get around to opening it. What I did not realize was that DVG Kickstarted this title and my copy was apparently one of the pledges. Which means it has many nice goodies in it. Which means I have plenty to explore. Which means Corsair Leader is now a Game of the Week title.

[It was not until after I wrote this post that my X feed enlightened me that 13 Sep was the 82nd anniversary of Major Gregory “Pappy” Boyington assuming command of VMF-214 ‘Black Sheep’ making this Game of the Week extra special.]

[Of course, who can forget the TV series Black Sheep Squadron…]

Unboxing

I should have realized that Corsair Leader is unusual from just the box. The 3″ deep bookcase-sized box weighs in at a hefty 6 lbs 8 oz. That weight comes in great part from the nine countersheets and mounted boards, not to mention plenty of extra printed gaming material.

This is my first DVG Leader-series title so there will be something of a learning curve which I will discuss next time…
