Wargame SITREP 24-52 ~ 2024 Armchair Dragoons Fall Assembly acquisitions

The second Armchair Dragoons Fall Assembly was held at Gamer’s Armory in Cary, North Carolina on October 11-13. I made it down there for Friday night and Saturday. I am going to appear on a (near)-future broadcast of the Mentioned in Dispatches podcast for a full wrap up. In the meantime suffice it to say that Fall Assembly is a nice, small, casual wargame meetup with great attendees, more than a few of which I only knew before as an X handle.

Games Played

Take that Street (Fight Club Intl). This wargame is not commercially available. As the Fight Club International website states: “The aim of TTS is to model combat inside, outside, and between buildings and to provide players a range of tactical options derived from urban fighting in recent conflicts. Our team of game designers is repeatedly play testing and updating the core mechanics and rule sets. A playable version is expected later this year using Tabletop Simulator and a boxed version shortly afterwards.”

Raider Drop Zone (Keith Tracton, 2024). Nothing like having the designer lead a teach & play of their own self-published design. To simply call this a homage to the classic Starship Troopers (Avalon Hill, 1976) takes away from the awesome development Keith has put into the “Shock & Awe” game mechanism that drives this design.

World War 85 in the Air (Keith Tracton, prototype). Keith is the designer behind the World At War 85 series from Lock ‘n Load publishing. This new prototype game of the air war over central Europe at the time of the wargame is still in design. Keith has rules but they are literally handwritten! A great time seeing where play and design mix.

Games Acquired

Modern Naval Battles: Global Warfare (DVG, 2008). Picked up from the trade table. Looks to be the original 2008 edition with cards still in shrink.

Normandy ’44 4th Printing / Normandy ’44 Mounted Map + 3″ Box (GMT Games, 2024). Armchair Dragoons review copies.
