RockyMountainNavy T is all-in on The Mandalorian: Adventures (Corey Konieczka, Unexpected Games, 2024) so it was no problem getting them to sit down for a Friday Family Game Night. We played the second mission in the game which is inspired by The Mandalorian TV series Season 1, Episode 3 “The Sin” (hence 1-3-2 as in Season 1, Episode 3, Mission 2). This new mission features a new character. RMN T, of course, wanted to play The Mandalorian so I took the new one.
Although I asked RMN T still wanted to play on Novice difficulty. Not that I blame him; we played the first mission a bit wrong and they worried about the rate of damage accumulation. By the time we completed the new mission we both were hurt but, even at normal difficulty, would still have been standing. Next mission will likely see us go to Normal difficulty.
The rules for The Mandalorian: Adventures make no claim that the mission progression is a form of programmed learning but, frankly, it is. Which is probably not a bad thing; Mission 1 introduced the basic of the Actions and this Mission exercised the full application of those rules while introducing a few new ones. I am no fan of slow programmed learning in boardgames but, hey, it works here. More importantly, RMN T is engaged and eager not only to play the mission of the night but is looking forward to what the next mission reveals.
The end of Mission 2 is also the time to open secret Envelope 1. We elected to NOT open the envelope right away; instead we will open it in the coming week or so at the start of Mission 3. Given Mission 2 played out in about 45 minutes we are both comfortable that we can open the envelope and learn any new rules at the start of the next session without too much added table time.
