When it comes to the ALIEN franchise and my roleplaying games, I have two pathways to adventure. The first is the licensed ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game from Free League Publishing and the second is the HOSTILE setting from Zozer Games. Both provide good material for adventure. This past week I took in several new products that will advance my adventuring.
Building Better Worlds
As the ad copy for this new tome states:
Building Better Worlds is a complete campaign module, giving you all the tools needed to run a full open-world campaign as a pioneering explorer or colonist. All the wonder and danger of the stars is yours—if you can just wipe the grime off your face and dig the dirt out from under your fingernails first.
Free League Publishing
The pdf version of Building Better Worlds is now available with any pre-order of the physical book which will be available early next year. This is another huge Free League production coming in at 304 pages for the pdf. Part sourcebook and part adventure there is plenty of world-building (literally) material between the covers.
HOSTILE Cyberpunk
Zozer Games recently released Earth: Cyberpunk Earth under Corporate Control for their HOSTILE setting. For those of you who don’t know, HOSTILE is a Cepheus Engine version of the ALIEN/Blade Runner franchises with the serial numbers filed off. Again, to the ad copy:
Earth is a worldbook for the gritty sci-fi Hostile RPG, set in 2225. Two economic collapses have reshaped the world, chaos and crime are widespread, corporations now manage many world governments, and an eco-crisis has created new deserts, flooded cities and changed the atmosphere. If you’re a military contractor, you are in luck! There is much to defend. If you’re a corporate agent, then you are fighting for power and profits in the largest super-cities known to man. If you’re just trying to get by in your city arcology … god help you.

HOSTILE SitReps
I also picked up three more HOSTILE Situation Reports from Zozer Games. SitReps are one-page adventure seeds provided for free from Zozer Games. The three latest SitReps are:
- 007 The Ark – “You’ve detected an Ark … a ship of sleeping thousands on their way to establish a new human colony. But it is dead, silent and locked in an orbit around a lifeless moon. You are ordered to investigate … are the sleepers still alive? OR, play as some of the crew, woken by the ship’s mainframe, and shocked to find the sleeper ship in some remote orbit, with chaos in the corridors …”
- 008 Life Cycle – “The colonel wants your infantry team to drop into the depths of an alien jungle, avoid enemy patrols, meet up with commandos returning from a long range patrol, and escort them back the pick up zone. Just a routine mission, right? But the commandos aren’t too happy about being led by the PCs. The enemy seem to all around them. There is a mysterious scientist accompanying the commandos. And a couple of those guys don’t look very well, at all. It’s not so routine, now, is it?”
- 009 Extraction – “The mining colony’s a bust and the company has decided to pull out. The lawless colonists will be left to their own devices, but behind a screen of frightened soldiers, the last four corporate executives need to be extracted from the landing field. Oh, and don’t forget the final shipment of precious endopalladium waiting in a warehouse nearby. You’ve accepted the contract… but when you arrive you realise the situation is anarchy… Now what?”
Any of the three adventure seeds can work with HOSTILE driven by the Cepheus Engine from Zozer Games or ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game from Free League Publishing.
