The past few weeks saw little gaming in the RockyMountainNavy home as Real LifeTM asserted dominance. Two major changes occurred that, now past, will hopefully lead back to a resumption of something of “normalcy.”
9 to 5
Both Mrs. RMN and myself started new jobs in the past two weeks. For Mrs. RMN this is a major change as she reenters the workforce full-time having worked only part time since COVID started in order to strongly support the RMN Boys as they finish high school or start a new career. For myself, I start a new job that is with an organization that is standing up and, from accounts heard, floundering a bit with a dire need of a strong hand to steady the helm and guide the office. I am supposed to provide that strong hand and office leadership. While the new job is at a location much closer to the RockyMountainNavy homestead and theoretically should provide a better work-life balance, the reality of the time demands remains to be seen. The impact to gaming time is likewise unknown but a realistic appraisal strongly signals limitations on game time in the immediate future until the full extent of the job responsibility is understood and life adjusted.
If you can’t play then read
While my wargame (and boardgame) time has been restricted, I make strong efforts to nonetheless include time in my daily schedule for reading. I have a decent-sized stack of books to work off and have made good progress.

Goose Green ops
In the past week I dedicated the little gaming time I got to a deeper exploration of the new Tactical Combat Series (TCS) wargame Goose Green by designer Carl Fung from Multi-Man Publishing. I am working up my thoughts on the command rules and will likely submit this manuscript to Regimental Commander Brant at Armchair Dragoons for his consideration.
Fall Assembly
Speaking of the Dragoons, if you are in the Raleigh area of North Carolina area at the end of this month you might want to drop by the Armchair Dragoons Fall Assembly scheduled for the weekend of October 20-22 in Cary, NC. FWIW, I plan on being there (and those plans were made in advance of my move to the new job so they will just have to accept I am taking a day of leave in my first pay period aboard).
