Great article. I should note that even in World War II, the Soviets never really embraced the “big blue [red? :p ] blanket” approach to air power and constant coverage that the Western Allies did. As always, it was “for the sake of Operation X, get air superiority over the relevant AO for X amount of time”, and it stuck postwar.
